Book Review
"The organization of the book is exemplary... this accessible and practice-oriented volume should appeal to international researchers and practitioners worldwide for whom data analytics is becoming both a key challenge and a growing opportunity towards improving organizational and/or government policy performance... this book by El Morr and Al-Hassan offers relevant insights and timely light on developments relevant to developments in worldwide contexts for healthcare policymaking, management and business development... this book offers inexpert readers access to some of the key practical implications of this industry-specific research... our verdict as reviewers is that Analytics in Healthcare: A Practical Introduction offers an international and diverse readership the opportunity to gain timely insights into applications of data analytics. Consistent with its stated purpose, the book does this specifically in relation to healthcare management and research - fields of activity and investment that, ultimately, become relevant to each individual’s experience of life and sense of well-being. Providers of healthcare worldwide are challenged increasingly to deliver basic services. Simultaneously, they are challenged to understand and incorporate advanced technologies relevant towards improving the quality of this delivery. This challenge is acute in many societies and not least across the Asia Pacific region. This accessible and affordable book offers relevant and practical insights into how these challenges might be described and responded to." (Read the full Book Review here)

It presents the basics of data, analytics and tools and includes multiple examples of their applications in the field. The book also identifies practical challenges that fuel the need for analytics in healthcare as well as the solutions to address these problems. A new generation of applications, sometimes referred to as end-user analytics or self-serve analytics, are specifically designed for non-technical users such as managers and business professionals.
