"Miko Peled is an Israeli-American Author and activist. The son of a decorated Israeli general, his grandfather one of 37 Israelis who signed Israel's declaration of independence.
His mother lived her entire life in full support of Israel, but she would lament about the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from Jerusalem in 1948.
Peled had his doubts about Israel's occupation ever since its actions in Lebanon in 1982, but he says his eyes were fully opened after he did a tour of the occupied territories in the early 2000s.
He says that it was then clear to him that Israel was involved in what is now an "eight decades-long ethnic cleansing and genocide" campaign against Palestinians.
Peled says that Israel will stop at nothing if given the opportunity to ethnically cleanse Gaza and the West Bank. It’s just a matter of when and how, he says.
The only thing that will stop Israel, he believes, is if the international community forces it to, by imposing "sanctions immediately." (

A Censoring Level of Editorial Intervention

"Even some of the most well-known writers and intellectuals describe a level of editorial intervention that often seems to cross over into censorship when writing about Israel/Palestine in this country. In September, lauded Indian author Pankaj Mishra revealed that the Globe and Mail had removed 17 references to Israel from an essay he had submitted to mark his winning a Canadian literary prize. Mishra rejected the edits and pulled his piece from publication, but spoke about the incident unflinchingly to a full house of listeners at the event celebrating his award. As he closed his remarks, he received a standing ovation for speaking about what many of us in the room have been longing to discuss — plainly, openly, together."
